FAQ

  • What is the difference between gold fill and gold plating?
Gold fill is completely different than gold plating and has a much longer life span. The layer of gold on gold filled items is 5-25 times thicker than that of gold plating, and will last on average between 10-30 years, even with daily wear.
  • How should I clean/polish my jewelry?
Gold filled items do not tarnish, so your earring hooks and hoops will not change in colour over time therefore do not require any special treatment. You may use a polish cloth to make them shine more if you wish. Brass does naturally develop a patina over time, however by keeping it in ziplocks to avoid contact with oxygen, it will accumulate much less tarnish. You can remove brass tarnish by gently rubbing your jewelry item with toothpaste (I like to call it a toothpaste massage), rinsing well with cool water, and drying thoroughly with papertowel. Brass doesn't like to be wet for long, so be sure to dry very well before storing again. Polish cloths also work well to prevent tarnish on brass. Gemstones do not require any special care. I would not reccommend using toothpaste or any other abrasive product on them, however mild dishsoap and water is fine if you find that they are accumulating dirt on them or losing their sheen over time. Pearls are more sensitive, so you should avoid contact with perfumes and creams, as well as with abrasive solutions. Pearls can be wiped with a mild dish soap and water solution to remove any accumulation of dirt over time.
